“Life’s a climb, but
the view is great.”- Miley Cyrus
Colors of reds and oranges jumped
out at us as we made our way up the long and winding road. This weekend, my
best friend from home came up to visit, and we decided to go on a little
adventure. We spent some time taking trips to Valley Falls in Vernon and
Soapstone Mountain in Somers over the summer and when we found out there was a
hiking trail here, smiles were pasted from ear to ear. The hike up West Rock
was so relaxing and serene and once we got to the top, we were amazed to see
the view of Southern and also the water nearby. Coming back down, we stumbled
on a cave called, “Judges Cave,” which is where members of the Parliament
signed the warrant condemning King Charles I to death in 1649. It was
intriguing to me especially because I am learning about this part of history in
my American History class at the moment so it was interesting to be able to see
that.
I am
thankful to have picked a college with so much going on internally and also
externally. This spot especially can help me get through one of my toughest challenges
of college, missing my family and home. I can come here to reflect and relax
and I have also mentioned it to my mom so it will be fun to bring her along
sometime!
In what ways are we
able to expand our horizons? How can we treat this semester as a “hike” to keep
pushing to the top?
